Watergardens
We are fortunate to live in a private 10 acre Japanese water garden of great antiquity. It’s a huge privilege to have somewhere as tranquil and beautiful in front of us but it has turned out to be quite difficult to photograph. This is largely because there is so much stuff there that photographs tend to be just full of detail and are often compositionally disappointing.
After 10 years of trying I think I have started to get the hang of it which is to employ the time-honored method of leaving as much out of the image as possible. Almost all of these images are taken handheld with my Olympus E-M1 Mark II. I have made prints of many of them at 3-ft by 2-ft dimensions and they look really good, which further cements my view that this camera is the best one I’ve ever owned.
Photographs in this album include: long exposures of the water garden, close details of pond life and planting, reflections, and seasonal light across the grounds.
