Marbled Godwit landing at at San Pablo lagoon

The Marbled Godwit can be distinguished from the otherwise very similar Whimbrel by it's two-tone beak. Both Godwit and Whimbrel sound like old english insults, which perhaps they were. The photo was taken at one of the lagoons at San Pablo, which sounds romantic, but is actually a god-awful spot bisected by a 6 lane highway. The really unapealing location makes it unattractive to most people, but the lagoons are a magnet for seabirds and other waders.
