Female Summer Tanager Flying Past a Male at a Fruit Feeder

An action close-up photograph documents a territorial interaction between two summer tanagers on a thick, weathered log containing cut fruit pieces. On the left, a solid rose-red male summer tanager stands defensively with its beak wide open in a vocal display. To its right, a mustard-yellow female summer tanager swoops in mid-flight with its wings completely extended in a downward sweep, revealing the broad underside of its flight feathers as it prepares to land near a piece of banana. The dynamic behavioral scene is captured cleanly against a vibrant, out-of-focus bright green background.
