White-necked Jacobin Hovering Beside a Red Heliconia

A male White-necked Jacobin hovers at eye level beside a red heliconia flower at Dave & Dave's Nature Pavilion in Sarapiquí, Costa Rica. Its blue head, green chest and white underparts stand out against the dark forest background, while one translucent wing rises behind the body. The bird's bill is just outside the flower, capturing the approach rather than an assumed feeding moment.
