Potoo Camouflaged on a Broken Tree Trunk

A potoo rests upright on the broken end of a tree trunk during a visit to Cope's forest near Guápiles, Costa Rica. Its mottled grey-brown plumage closely matches the weathered bark, and the bird holds its bill upward with its eyes almost closed. Small air plants on the trunk and thin surrounding branches give a sense of the forest setting.
