Female Green-crowned Brilliant Approaching Yellow Porterweed

An action close-up photograph captures a female green-crowned brilliant hummingbird backing away from a yellow porterweed (Stachytarpheta) flower spike at Adolfo's Gardens in Boca Tapada. The high-speed sync multi-flash setup freezes the bird mid-flight with its wings raised vertically and its tail angled downward for deceleration. The iridescent green and bronze tones of its plumage are sharply defined against a smooth, solid green out-of-focus background.
