Gray-capped Flycatcher Taking Off Above Arenal Foliage
A Gray-capped Flycatcher flies upward from glossy green foliage with both wings and its russet-edged tail opened into broad fans at Arenal Observatory Lodge & Spa in Costa Rica. Its pale gray crown, dark eye mask, white throat and yellow underparts distinguish this social tropical flycatcher. The exposure of 1/3200 sec, f/4 and ISO 6400 freezes the decisive body position and separates the principal wing and tail feathers while retaining only fine traces of motion at the fastest edges; the photograph was made in natural light without flash.
