Silver-throated Tanager Jumping from Fruit at Batsu Gardens

A Silver-throated Tanager jumps from the lower fruit toward the upper feeder position with both feet lifted, its yellow head, black-streaked back and silver throat isolated against shadowed foliage at Batsu Gardens in Costa Rica. A yellow head and body, black-streaked back and silvery throat identify this small cloud-forest tanager. The exposure of 1/4000 sec, f/5.6 and ISO 4000 freezes the decisive body position and separates the principal wing and tail feathers while retaining only fine traces of motion at the fastest edges; the photograph was made in natural light without flash.
