Living in the park

I saw this couple sitting on the top of an ornamental flower bed in a riverside park near the central market, and assumed they were having a picnic. Walking on, I realised they were homeless, and that was where they were sleeping. The man's expression to me shows a mixture of defiance, tension and wryness. His partner is rolling a cigarette or a joint. There is a depth to the shot that is unusual, and I see the photo as a tribute to their resilience and not an exploitation of their weakness.
