The Japanese-built logging railway at Taipingshan

This very atmospheric railway track has been turned into a trail and the moss has been allowed to grow on the trestle bridges, creating an eerie and magical scene. Taiwan was peacefully occupied by Japan from 1895 to 1945, and extensively modernised the country.
As a result this railway doen't have the same connotations as for the forced labour constructions in Burma, but it is undeniaably atmospheric.
