Sigiriya from Pidurangala Rock

Sigiriya from Pidurangala Rock

If you climb Sigiriya rock, you cannot actually see it from the top (of course). The classic place to shoot the rock is from another viewpoint, Pidurangala Rock, a few km away. Pidurangala is to the north of Sigiriya, so classic sunrise or sunset shots are not possible. On the single morning I had allocated, the morning was almost completely overcast, with zero direct illumination on the rock itself. The shots I got were extremely dull and low in contrast. However, the Olympus OM-1, despite what some pundits would tell you, is capable of extracting significant amounts of detail from low contrast shots. For this image, pre-processing was done in DxO Photolab 9, the best denoise, optical correction and demosaicing software available (imho). Final finishing was done in On1 PhotoRaw 2026.
